Information literacy curriculum mapping in the health sciences

Instructional medical librarians are uniquely positioned in a context governed by multiple instructional frameworks emerging from librarianship and the professions with which they liaise. Yet very little literature exists on librarians’ use of curriculum mapping to align their instruction these frameworks. This review illuminates current state librarianship. We searched five bibliographic databases for articles published between 2010 August 2021 centred information literacy (IL) within health sciences university context. Studies were included based upon pre-determined inclusion exclusion criteria. Data extracted using an instrument developed primarily priori, some codes emergently response preliminary data. 127 studies focused mapping, only 24 structures might be considered “curriculum maps”. Across all included, The Association College & Research Libraries’ Information Literacy Competency Standards Libraries Higher Education was most-used IL framework, though versions evidence-based practice used more often, great deal diversity incomplete reporting how frames informed discrete concepts skills. Within containing figurative maps, same present, classroom activities often than learning outcomes or competencies. Development curricular maps aligning skills different disciplinary contexts is needed provide instructors modular structure implement own contexts. To further identification best practices, future research should examine existing made librarians.
